A number of key executive appointments have been made at Mercedes-Benz South Africa Limited (MBSA) in the areas of Sales & Marketing and Aftersales.
Starting on February 1, 2023, Selvin Govender, currently the Director of Marketing and Sales for Mercedes-Benz South Africa (MBSA), will assume the same role for Mercedes-Benz GDs Europe, Middle East, and Africa (MBGD).
Mark Raine, Co-CEO of Mercedes-Benz Cars and Executive Director of MBSA, had this to say about Selvin’s departure: “Selvin Govender has been synonymous with the Mercedes-Benz brand for over two decades and has been instrumental in leading the company’s enviable brand in the premium automotive sector and commercial success throughout his tenure.”
Selvin has worked for Mercedes-Benz SA in various capacities since joining the company in 2000 as Key Accounts Manager, including those of Manager: Certified Pre-Owned and Remarketing operations, National Sales Manager, and Marketing Director for Mercedes-Benz Cars. He was promoted to VP of Marketing and Sales at MBSA in 2021. Selvin was instrumental in implementing the centralized marketing framework to support the direct sales model and e-commerce, as well as advancing the brand objectives of MBAG to revitalize the Mercedes-Benz brand in Southern Africa.
Paying tribute to Selvin Governder’s leadership, Mark Raine added: “For 22 years, Selvin’s undisputed sale and marketing expertise have enabled MBSA’s success as the leader in the premium segment. His communication and interpersonal skills, interspersed with his strategic and commercial prowess, will stand him in good stead in the new role of Vice President and Director for Marketing and Sales for MBGD and enhance the international profile of our brand.”
A successor to Selvin will be appointed and communicated in due course.
As of 1 January 2023, Mercedes-Benz Brazil will have a new Head of Customer Services MBC in the form of Alexandre Ferreira, who will be transitioning to the role of Strategic Projects Lead MBC in the Aftersales division.
Alex began working for Mercedes-Benz Brazil in 1996 and has since held a number of positions in both the passenger car and commercial vehicle divisions. When he was promoted to Senior Manager for Dealer Network Development in Brazil and Latin America in 2009, he entered the aftersales industry for the first time. Since 2014, when Alexandre took over as Customer Services Director for MBC in Brazil, the company has experienced annualized growth in excess of 10%. With a focus on future-proofing the company, right-sizing the network, piloting several projects in the region overseas, and developing new revenue streams, Alexandre left for his first international assignment as Customer Services Director at MBC South Africa in January 2019.
Mark summed up by saying, “MBSA would like to commend Alexandre Ferreira for his commitment to the success of the Aftersales division and the transformation of our business to gear it for future growth and exceptional customer service, We wish him well with his new role of strategic importance in Brazil.”
